Waterport, NY: Strong wind and the threat of rain couldn't slow down 106 players from across Western New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Ohio and Southern Canada took to the shores of Lake Ontario to participate in the 10th annual Shorewinds Shootout. Tournament Director Mark Maue and Assistant TD Alex Wilkinson ran an amazing event that saw 7 divisions play across the two beautiful courses.
The two Pro Division saw Jerry Menzie of Bergen, NY take down the MPO Division with a -9 (118 Total). In the Pro Masters 40+ Mike Pieri of Fairport, NY edged out Jim Egan of Rochester, NY by one stroke shooting a +5 (132 Total).
Amateur Advance Champion Spencer Hewitt of Lewiston, NY shot the day’s hot overall total with a -10 (117 Total) while Christopher Walden of Rochester, NY, and Zach Sisson of Houghton, NY came in right behind shooting -7(120 Total).
Amateur Masters 40+ saw both Blane Egan of Rochester, NY, and Steve Hopkins of Lockport, NY both finish with a +7 (134 Total) after 36 holes. The two men went on to play extra holes where Blane edged out Steve in a playoff.
Men's Intermediate Champion Ryan Bane of Lyndonville, NY shot a strong game finishing with the -7 (119 Total) taking down a strong finish over the rest of the field.
The women’s division saw Cassie Aszkler of Lackawanna, NY edge out Lexi Mucci of East Aurora, NY, and Nicki Kramer of Lancaster, NY.
Lastly, in the Recreational division, Mike Filosofos of North Tonawanda, NY shot a +3 (129 Total) in a very close battle.
The Shorewinds Shootout had a little bit of everything this weekend from fun courses, huge shots, and crazy weather. It was a disc golfers paradise or living nightmare depending on who you asked. That being said, a huge shout out to TD’s Mark Maue and Alex Wilkinson for running a smooth and successful tournament.
